19 | 1 And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,
2 “Speak to all the congregation of the children of Yisra’ĕl, and say to them, ‘Be set-apart, for I יהוה your Elohim am set-apart.
3 ‘Each one of you should fear his mother and his father, and guard My Sabbaths. I am יהוה your Elohim.
4 ‘Do not turn to idols, and do not make for yourselves moulded mighty ones. I am יהוה your Elohim.
5 ‘And when you bring a peace offering to יהוה, bring it for your acceptance.
6 ‘It is eaten the same day you slaughter it, and on the next day. And that which is left on the third day is burned with fire.
7 ‘So if it is eaten at all on the third day, it is abominable, it is not accepted,
8 and he who eats it bears his crookedness, because he has profaned the set-apart offering of יהוה, and that being shall be cut off from his people.
9 ‘And when you reap the harvest of your land, do not completely reap the corners of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest.
10 ‘And do not glean your vineyard or gather every grape of your vineyard, leave them for the poor and the stranger. I am יהוה your Elohim.
11 ‘Do not steal, do not lie, do not deceive one another.
12 ‘And do not swear falsely by My Name and so profane the Name of your Elohim. I am יהוה.
13 ‘Do not oppress your neighbour or rob him. The wages of him who is hired is not to remain with you all night until morning.
14 ‘Do not curse the deaf or put a stumbling-block before the blind, but fear your Elohim. I am יהוה.
15 ‘Do no unrighteousness in right-ruling. Do not be partial to the poor or favour the face of the great, but rightly rule your neighbour in righteousness.
16 ‘Do not go slandering among your people. Do not stand against the blood of your neighbour. I am יהוה.
17 ‘Do not hate your brother in your heart. Reprove your neighbour, for certain, and bear no sin because of him.
18 ‘Do not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the children of your people. And you shall love your neighbour as yourself. I am יהוה.
19 ‘Guard My laws. Do not let your livestock mate with another kind. Do not sow your field with mixed seed. And do not put a garment woven of two sorts of thread upon you.
20 ‘And when a man has intercourse with a woman who is a female servant, engaged to a man, and who has not at all been ransomed nor redeemed, there should be an inquiry. But they are not put to death, because she was not free.
21 ‘And he shall bring his guilt offering to יהוה, to the door of the Tent of Meeting, a ram as a guilt offering.
22 ‘And the priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering before יהוה for his sin which he has done. And the sin which he has sinned shall be forgiven him.
23 ‘And when you come into the land, and have planted all kinds of trees for food, then you shall reckon their fruit as uncircumcised. For three years it is as uncircumcised to you, it is not eaten.
24 ‘And in the fourth year all its fruit is set-apart – praises to יהוה.
25 ‘And in the fifth year you eat its fruit, so that it increases its yield to you. I am יהוה your Elohim.
26 ‘Do not eat meat with the blood. Do not practise divination or magic.
27 ‘Do not round the corner of your head, nor destroy the corner of your beard.
28 ‘And do not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor put tattoo marks on you. I am יהוה.
29 ‘Do not profane your daughter by making her a whore, so that the land does not whore, and the land becomes filled with wickedness.
30 ‘Guard My Sabbaths and reverence My set-apart place. I am יהוה.
31 ‘Do not turn to mediums, and do not seek after spiritists to be defiled by them. I am יהוה your Elohim.
32 ‘Rise up before the grey-headed. And you shall favour the face of an old man, and shall fear your Elohim. I am יהוה.
33 ‘And when a stranger sojourns with you in your land, do not oppress him.
34 ‘Let the stranger who dwells among you be to you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself. For you were strangers in the land of Mitsrayim. I am יהוה your Elohim.
35 ‘Do no unrighteousness in right-ruling, in measurement of length, in weight, or in measuring liquids.
36 ‘Have right scales, right weights, a right ĕphah, and a right hin. I am יהוה your Elohim, who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim.
37 ‘And you shall guard all My laws and all My right-rulings, and do them. I am יהוה.’ ”
20 | 1 And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,
2 “Say to the children of Yisra’ĕl, ‘Any man of the children of Yisra’ĕl, or of the strangers who sojourn in Yisra’ĕl, who gives any of his offspring to Moleḵ, shall certainly be put to death. The people of the land shall stone him with stones.
3 ‘And I, I shall set My face against that man, and shall cut him off from the midst of his people, because he has given of his offspring to Moleḵ, so as to defile My set-apart place and to profane My set-apart Name.
4 ‘And if the people of the land at all hide their eyes from the man, as he gives any of his offspring to Moleḵ, and they do not kill him,
5 then I shall set My face against that man and against his clan, and shall cut him off – and all who go whoring after him, even go whoring after Moleḵ – from the midst of their people.
6 ‘And the being who turns to mediums, and to spiritists, to go whoring after them, I shall set My face against that being and cut him off from the midst of his people.
7 ‘And you shall set yourselves apart, and shall be set-apart, for I am יהוה your Elohim,
8 and you shall guard My laws and do them. I am יהוה, who sets you apart.
9 ‘For everyone who curses his father or his mother shall certainly be put to death – he has cursed his father or his mother, his blood is on him.
10 ‘And a man who commits adultery with the wife of another man, who commits adultery with the wife of his neighbour: the adulterer and the adulteress shall certainly be put to death.
11 ‘And a man who lies with the wife of his father has uncovered the nakedness of his father, both of them shall certainly be put to death, their blood is upon them.
12 ‘And a man who lies with his daughter-in-law: both of them shall certainly be put to death, they have made confusion, their blood is upon them.
13 ‘And a man who lies with a male as he lies with a woman: both of them have done an abomination, they shall certainly be put to death, their blood is upon them.
14 ‘And a man who marries a woman and her mother: it is wickedness, they are burned with fire, both he and they, that there be no wickedness in your midst.
15 ‘And a man who has intercourse with a beast: he shall certainly be put to death, and the beast you kill.
16 ‘And a woman who approaches any beast and mates with it: you shall kill the woman and the beast, they shall certainly be put to death, their blood is upon them.
17 ‘And a man who takes his sister, his father’s daughter or his mother’s daughter, and sees her nakedness and she sees his nakedness: it is wickedness, and they shall be cut off before the eyes of their people. He has uncovered his sister’s nakedness, he bears his crookedness.
18 ‘And a man who lies with a woman during her sickness and uncovers her nakedness: he has laid bare her flow, and she has uncovered the flow of her blood, both of them shall be cut off from the midst of their people.
19 ‘And do not uncover the nakedness of your mother’s sister nor of your father’s sister, for that is laying bare one’s own flesh, they bear their crookedness.
20 ‘And a man who lies with his uncle’s wife: he has uncovered his uncle’s nakedness, they bear their sin, they die childless.
21 ‘And a man who takes his brother’s wife: it is uncleanness, he has uncovered his brother’s nakedness, they are childless.
22 ‘And you shall guard all My laws and all My right-rulings, and do them, so that the land where I am bringing you to dwell does not vomit you out.
23 ‘And do not walk in the laws of the nation which I am driving out before you, for they do all these, and therefore I loathed them.
24 ‘But I say to you, “You are going to possess their land, and I Myself give it to you to possess it, a land flowing with milk and honey.” I am יהוה your Elohim, who has separated you from the peoples.
25 ‘And you shall make a distinction between clean beasts and unclean, and between unclean birds and clean. And do not make yourselves abominable by beast or by bird, or whatever creeps on the ground, which I have separated from you as unclean.
26 ‘And you shall be set-apart to Me, for I יהוה am set-apart, and have separated you from the peoples to be Mine.
27 ‘And a man or a woman in whom there is a medium, or who are spiritists, shall certainly be put to death, they are to stone them with stones. Their blood is upon them.’ ”
45 | 1 “Thus said יהוה to His anointed, to Koresh, whose right hand I have grasped, to subdue nations before him and ungird the loins of sovereigns, to open before him the double doors, so that gates are not shut:
2 ‘I go before you and make the crooked places straight; I shatter the gates of bronze and cut down the bars of iron.
3 ‘And I shall give you the treasures of darkness and hoarded wealth of secret places, so that you know that I, יהוה, who are calling you by your name, am the Elohim of Yisra’ĕl.
4 ‘For the sake of Ya‛aqoḇ My servant, and of Yisra’ĕl My chosen, I also call you by your name, I give you a title, though you have not known Me.
5 ‘I am יהוה, and there is none else – there is no Elohim besides Me. I gird you, though you have not known Me,
6 so that they know from the rising of the sun to its setting that there is none but Me. I am יהוה, and there is none else,
7 forming light and creating darkness, making peace and creating evil. I, יהוה, do all these.’
8 “Rain down, O heavens, from above, and let clouds pour down righteousness. Let the earth open, let them bring forth deliverance, and let righteousness spring up together. I, יהוה, have created it.
9 “Woe to him who strives with his Maker! (a potsherd with the potsherds of the earth). Does clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’ Or your handiwork say, ‘He has no hands’?
10 “Woe to him who says to his father, ‘What are you bringing forth?’ Or to the woman, ‘What are you labouring over?’ ”
11 Thus said יהוה, the Set-apart One of Yisra’ĕl, and his Maker, “Do you ask Me about My sons what is to come? And about the work of My hands do you command Me?
12 “I have made the earth, and created man on it. I, My hands have stretched out the heavens, and all their host I have commanded.
13 “I have stirred him up in righteousness, and all his ways I make straight. He builds My city and lets My exiles go, not for price nor reward,” declares יהוה of hosts.
14 Thus said יהוה, “The labour of Mitsrayim and merchandise of Kush and of the Seḇaites, men of size, come over to you and they are yours. They walk behind you, they come over in chains, and they bow down to you. They make supplication to you, saying, ‘Indeed, Ěl is in you, and there is none else, no mighty one.’ ”
15 Truly You are Ěl, who hide Yourself, O Elohim of Yisra’ĕl, Saviour!
16 They shall be put to shame, and even be humiliated, all of them – the makers of idols shall go away together in humiliation.
17 Yisra’ĕl shall be saved by יהוה with an everlasting deliverance. You are not to be ashamed nor hurt, forever and ever.
18 For thus said יהוה, Creator of the heavens, He is Elohim, Former of earth and its Maker, He established it, He did not create it to be empty, He formed it to be inhabited: “I am יהוה, and there is none else.
19 “I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth. I have not said to the seed of Ya‛aqoḇ, ‘Seek Me in vain.’ I am יהוה, speaking righteousness, declaring matters that are straight.
20 “Gather yourselves and come; draw near together, you who have escaped from the gentiles. No knowledge have they who are lifting up the wood of their carved image, and pray to a mighty one that does not save.
21 “Declare and bring near, let them even take counsel together. Who has announced this from of old? Who has declared it from that time? Is it not I, יהוה? And there is no mighty one besides Me, a righteous Ěl and a Saviour, there is none besides Me.
22 “Turn to Me and be saved, all you ends of the earth! For I am Ěl, and there is none else.
23 “I have sworn by Myself, a word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, so that to Me every knee shall bow, every tongue swear.
24 “One shall say, ‘Only in יהוה do I have righteousness and strength’ – he comes to Him. And all those displeased with Him shall be put to shame.
25 “In יהוה all the seed of Yisra’ĕl shall be declared right and boast. ”
46 | 1 Bĕl has bowed down, Neḇo is stooping, their idols were on the beasts and on the cattle. That which is carried is burdensome, a burden to the weary.
2 They have stooped, they have bowed down together, they were unable to deliver the burden, but they themselves went into captivity.
3 “Listen to Me, O house of Ya‛aqoḇ, and all the remnant of the house of Yisra’ĕl, who are borne from the belly, who are carried from the womb:
4 even to your old age, I am He, and even to grey hairs I carry! I have made and I bear, and I carry and rescue.
5 “To whom do you liken Me, and compare Me and make Me similar, that we should be alike?
6 “They pour gold out of the bag, and weigh silver on the scale. They hire a goldsmith, and he makes it a mighty one. They fall down, they also bow themselves.
7 “They bear it on the shoulder, they carry it and set it in its place, and it stands – from its place it does not move. Though one cries out to it, it does not answer, nor save him from his distress.
8 “Remember this, and show yourselves men; turn it back, you transgressors.
9 “Remember the former events of old, for I am Ěl, and there is no one else – Elohim, and there is no one like Me,
10 declaring the end from the beginning, and from of old that which has not yet been done, saying, ‘My counsel does stand, and all My delight I do,’
11 calling a bird of prey from the east, the man who executes My counsel, from a distant land. Indeed I have spoken it, I also bring it to pass. I have planned it, I also do it.
12 “Listen to Me, you stubborn-hearted, who are far from righteousness:
13 “I shall bring My righteousness near, it is not far off, and My deliverance, it is not delayed. And I shall give deliverance in Tsiyon, My esteem to Yisra’ĕl.
1 SAMUEL 10:1-11:15
10 | 1 And Shemu’ĕl took a flask of oil and poured it on his head, and kissed him and said, “Is it not because יהוה has anointed you leader over His inheritance?
2 “When you leave me today, you shall find two men by Raḥĕl’s tomb in the border of Binyamin at Tseltsaḥ, and they shall say to you, ‘The donkeys which you went to look for have been found. And see, your father has left the matters of the donkeys and is worrying about you, saying, “What shall I do for my son?” ’
3 “And you shall pass on from there, and beyond, and shall come to the terebinth tree of Taḇor. And three men going up to Elohim at Bĕyth Ěl shall find you there, one bearing three young goats, another bearing three loaves of bread, and another bearing a skin of wine.
4 “And they shall greet you and give you two loaves of bread, which you shall accept from their hand.
5 “After that go to the hill of Elohim where the Philistine watch-post is. And it shall be, when you have come there to the city, that you shall meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place with a stringed instrument, and a tambourine, and a flute, and a lyre before them, and they are prophesying.
6 “And the Spirit of יהוה shall come upon you, and you shall prophesy with them and be turned into another man.
7 “And it shall be, when these signs come to you, do for yourself as your hand finds to do, for Elohim is with you.
8 “And you shall go down before me to Gilgal. And see, I am coming down to you to slaughter burnt offerings and make peace offerings. Wait seven days, till I come to you, then I shall make known to you what you should do.”
9 And it came to be, when he had turned his back to go from Shemu’ĕl, that Elohim gave him another heart. And all those signs came on that day.
10 And they came there to the hill and saw a group of prophets, to meet him. And the Spirit of Elohim came upon him, and he prophesied in their midst.
11 And it came to be, all who knew him formerly looked and saw that he prophesied among the prophets. So the people said to each other, “What is this that has come upon the son of Qish? Is Sha’ul also among the prophets?”
12 And a man there answered and said, “And who is their father?” That is why it became a proverb, “Is Sha’ul also among the prophets?”
13 And when he stopped prophesying, he went to the high place.
14 And the uncle of Sha’ul asked him and his servant, “Where did you go?” And he said, “To look for the donkeys. And when we saw that they were nowhere to be found, we went to Shemu’ĕl.”
15 And the uncle of Sha’ul said, “Please inform me what Shemu’ĕl said to you.”
16 And Sha’ul said to his uncle, “He informed us plainly that the donkeys had been found.” But he did not disclose to him about the matter of the reign, what Shemu’ĕl had said.
17 And Shemu’ĕl called the people together to יהוה at Mitspah,
18 and said to the children of Yisra’ĕl, “Thus said יהוה, the Elohim of Yisra’ĕl, ‘I have brought Yisra’ĕl up out of Mitsrayim, and delivered you from the hand of the Mitsrites and from the hand of all reigns and from those who oppressed you.’
19 “And today you have rejected your Elohim, who Himself saved you out of all your evils and your distresses. And you have said to Him, ‘No, but set a sovereign over us!’ And now, present yourselves before יהוה by your tribes and by your clans.”
20 And Shemu’ĕl brought near all the tribes of Yisra’ĕl, and the tribe of Binyamin was taken.
21 Then he brought near the tribe of Binyamin, by their clans, and the clan of Matri was taken, and Sha’ul son of Qish was taken. And when they sought him, he could not be found.
22 And they asked again of יהוה, “Has the man come here yet?” And יהוה answered, “See, he has hidden by the baggage.”
23 And they ran and brought him from there. And he stood in the midst of the people, and he was taller than any of the people, from his shoulders and upwards.
24 And Shemu’ĕl said to all the people, “Do you see him whom יהוה has chosen, that there is no one like him among all the people?” And all the people shouted and said, “Let the sovereign live!”
25 And Shemu’ĕl declared to the people the rulings of the reign, and wrote it in a book and placed it before יהוה. And Shemu’ĕl sent all the people away, each to his house.
26 And Sha’ul went to his house too, to Giḇ‛ah. And with him went brave men whose hearts Elohim had touched.
27 But the sons of Beliya‛al said, “What! Does this one save us?” And they despised him, and brought him no presents. But he kept silent.
11 | 1 And Naḥash the Ammonite came up and camped against Yaḇĕsh Gil‛aḏ. And all the men of Yaḇĕsh said to Naḥash, “Make a covenant with us, and we shall serve you.”
2 Then Naḥash the Ammonite answered them, “For this I make a covenant with you, that I dig out all your right eyes, and I shall bring reproach on all Yisra’ĕl.”
3 And the elders of Yaḇĕsh said to him, “Leave us alone for seven days, so that we send messengers to all the borders of Yisra’ĕl. And then, if there is no one to save us, we shall come out to you.”
4 And the messengers came to Giḇ‛ah of Sha’ul and spoke the words in the hearing of the people. And all the people lifted up their voices and wept.
5 And look, Sha’ul was coming behind the herd from the field. And Sha’ul said, “Why are the people weeping?” And they related to him the words of the men of Yaḇĕsh.
6 And the Spirit of Elohim came upon Sha’ul mightily as he heard these words, and his displeasure burned greatly.
7 And he took a yoke of cattle and cut them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the border of Yisra’ĕl by the hands of messengers, saying, “Whoever does not go out with Sha’ul and Shemu’ĕl to battle, let this be done to his cattle.” And the fear of יהוה fell on the people, and they came out as one man.
8 And he mustered them in Bezeq, and the children of Yisra’ĕl were three hundred thousand, and the men of Yehuḏah thirty thousand.
9 And they said to the messengers who came, “Say this to the men of Yaḇĕsh Gil‛aḏ, ‘Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, you shall have help.’ ” Then the messengers came and informed the men of Yaḇĕsh, and they rejoiced.
10 So the men of Yaḇĕsh said, “Tomorrow we come out to you, and you shall do to us whatever seems good to you.”
11 And it came to be, on the next day, that Sha’ul put the people in three companies. And they came into the midst of the camp in the morning watch and smote Ammon until the heat of the day. And it came to be that those left were scattered, so that no two of them were left together.
12 And the people said to Shemu’ĕl, “Who said, ‘Shall Sha’ul reign over us?’ Bring the men, so that we put them to death.”
13 But Sha’ul said, “No man is put to death this day, for today יהוה has wrought deliverance in Yisra’ĕl.”
14 And Shemu’ĕl said to the people, “Come, and let us go to Gilgal and renew the reign there.”
15 And all the people went to Gilgal, and there they set up Sha’ul to reign before יהוה in Gilgal, and there they made slaughterings of peace offerings before יהוה. And there Sha’ul rejoiced, and all the men of Yisra’ĕl, very greatly.
20 | 19 When therefore it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were shut where the taught ones met, for fear of the Yehuḏim, יהושע came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace to you.”
20 And having said this, He showed them His hands and His side. The taught ones therefore rejoiced when they saw the Master.
21 Then יהושע said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”
22 And having said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Set-apart Spirit.
23 “If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained.”
24 But T’oma, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when יהושע came,
25 so the other taught ones said to him, “We have seen the Master.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the mark of the nails, and put my finger into the imprint of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I shall by no means believe.”
26 And after eight days His taught ones were again inside, and T’oma with them. יהושע came, the doors having been shut, and He stood in the midst, and said, “Peace to you!”
27 Then He said to T’oma, “Bring your finger here, and see My hands. And bring your hand and put it into My side – and do not be unbelieving, but believing.”
28 And T’oma answered and said to Him, “My Master and my Elohim!”a
29 יהושע said to him, “T’oma, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.”
30 There were indeed many other signs that יהושע did in the presence of His taught ones, which are not written in this book,
3 | 1 For the rest, my brothers, rejoice in יהוה. To write the same matters to you is truly no trouble to me, and for you it is safe.
2 Look out for dogs, look out for the evil workers, look out for the mutilation!
3 For we are the circumcision, who are serving Elohim in the Spirit, and boasting in Messiah יהושע, and do not trust in the flesh,
4 though I too might have trust in the flesh. If anyone else thinks to trust in the flesh, I more –
5 circumcised the eighth day, of the race of Yisra’ĕl, of the tribe of Binyamin, a Heḇrew of Heḇrews, according to Torah a Pharisee,
6 according to ardour, persecuting the assembly; according to righteousness that is in the law, having become blameless.
7 But what might have been a gain to me, I have counted as loss, because of Messiah.
8 What is more, I even count all to be loss because of the excellence of the knowledge of Messiah יהושע my Master, for whom I have suffered the loss of all, and count them as refuse, in order to gain Messiah,
9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through belief in Messiah, the righteousness which is from Elohim on the basis of belief,
10 to know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,
11 if somehow I might attain to the resurrection from the dead.
12 Not that I have already received, or already been perfected, but I press on, to lay hold of that for which Messiah יהושע has also laid hold of me.
13 Brothers, I do not count myself to have laid hold of it yet, but only this: forgetting what is behind and reaching out for what lies ahead,
14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of Elohim in Messiah יהושע.
15 As many, then, as are perfect, should have this mind. And if you think differently in any respect, Elohim shall also reveal this to you.
16 But to what we have already attained – walk by the same rule, be of the same mind.
17 Become joint imitators of me, brothers, and observe those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern.
18 For many – of whom I have often told you, and now say to you even weeping – walk as enemies of the stake of Messiah.
19 Their end is destruction, their mighty one is their stomach, and their esteem is in their shame – they mind the earthly.
20 For our citizenship is in the heavens, from which we also eagerly wait for the Saviour, the Master יהושע Messiah,
21 who shall change our lowly body, to be conformed to His esteemed body, according to the working by which He is able even to bring all under His control.
Thank you for joining us as we read through the WORD of GOD! From My House to yours, may your Sabbath be full of the rest found in Him.
