Exodus 36-37

36 | 1 “And Betsal’ĕl and Oholiaḇ, and every wise-hearted man in whom יהוה has given wisdom and understanding, to know how to do all work for the service of the set-apart place, shall do according to all that יהוה has commanded.”

2 And Mosheh called Betsal’ĕl and Oholiaḇ, and every wise-hearted man in whose heart יהוה had given wisdom, everyone whose heart lifted him up, to come and do the work.

3 And they received from Mosheh all the contribution which the children of Yisra’ĕl had brought for the work of the service of making the set-apart place. But they still brought to him voluntary offerings every morning,

4 so all the craftsmen who were doing all the work of the set-apart place came, each from the work he was doing,

5 and they spoke to Mosheh, saying, “The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work which יהוה commanded us to do.”

6 Then Mosheh commanded and they sent this word throughout the camp, saying, “Let neither man nor woman do any more work for the contribution of the set-apart place.” And the people were withheld from bringing,

7 for what they had was enough for all the work to be done, more than enough.

8 Then all the wise-hearted ones among them who worked on the Dwelling Place made ten curtains woven of fine linen and blue and purple and scarlet material. They made them with keruḇim, the work of a skilled workman.

9 The length of each curtain was twenty-eight cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits, all the curtains having one measure.

10 And he joined five curtains, one to another; and the other five curtains he joined, one to another.

11 And he made loops of blue on the edge of the end curtain of one set, the same he did on the edge of the end curtain of the other set.

12 Fifty loops he made on one curtain, and fifty loops he made on the edge of the end curtain of the second set; the loops held one curtain to another.

13 And he made fifty hooks of gold, and joined the curtains to each other with the hooks, and the Dwelling Place became one.

14 And he made curtains of goats’ hair for the tent over the Dwelling Place, he made eleven curtains.

15 The length of each curtain was thirty cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits, the eleven curtains having one measure.

16 And he joined five curtains by themselves and six curtains by themselves.

17 And he made fifty loops on the edge of the end curtain in one set, and fifty loops he made on the edge of the curtain of the second set.

18 And he made fifty bronze hooks to join the tent, to be one.

19 And he made a covering for the tent of rams’ skins, dyed red, and a covering of fine leather above that.

20 And for the Dwelling Place he made boards of acacia wood, standing up.

21 The length of each board was ten cubits, and the width of each board a cubit and a half.

22 Each board had two tenons for binding one to another. So he did to all the boards of the Dwelling Place.

23 And he made boards for the Dwelling Place, twenty boards for the south side.

24 And he made forty sockets of silver to go under the twenty boards, and two sockets under each of the boards for its two tenons.

25 And for the other side of the Dwelling Place, for the north side, he made twenty boards,

26 and their forty sockets of silver, two sockets under the one board, and two sockets under the other board.

27 And he made six boards for the west side of the Dwelling Place.

28 And he made two boards for the two back corners of the Dwelling Place.

29 And they were double beneath, and similarly they were complete to the top by one ring. So he did to both of them for the two corners.

30 And there were eight boards, and their silver sockets, sixteen sockets, two sockets under each of the boards.

31 And he made bars of acacia wood, five for the boards on one side of the Dwelling Place,

32 and five bars for the boards on the other side of the Dwelling Place, and five bars for the boards of the Dwelling Place at the rear, westward.

33 And he made the middle bar to pass through the boards from one end to the other.

34 And he overlaid the boards with gold, and their rings he made of gold to be holders for the bars, and overlaid the bars with gold.

35 And he made a veil of blue and purple and scarlet material, and fine worked linen. It was made with keruḇim, the work of a skilled workman.

36 And he made four columns of acacia wood for it, and overlaid them with gold, with their hooks of gold. And he cast four sockets of silver for them.

37 And he made a covering for the Tent door of blue and purple and scarlet material and fine woven linen, made by a weaver,

38 and its five columns with their hooks. And he overlaid their tops and their rings with gold, but their five sockets were of bronze.

37 | 1 And Betsal’ĕl made the ark of acacia wood, two and a half cubits long, and a cubit and a half wide, and a cubit and a half high.

2 And he overlaid it with clean gold inside and outside, and made a moulding of gold all around it.

3 And he cast four rings of gold for it, for its four feet, two rings on its one side, and two rings on its other side.

4 And he made poles of acacia wood, and overlaid them with gold.

5 And he put the poles into the rings at the sides of the ark, to lift the ark.

6 And he made a lid of atonement of clean gold, two and a half cubits long and a cubit and a half wide.

7 And he made two keruḇim of beaten gold. He made them from the two ends of the lid of atonement,

8 one keruḇ at one end on this side, and the other keruḇ at the other end on that side. He made the keruḇim from the lid of atonement, from the two ends.

9 And the keruḇim spread out their wings above, and covered the lid of atonement with their wings, with their faces toward each other, the faces of the keruḇim were turned toward the lid of atonement.

10 And he made the table of acacia wood, two cubits long, and a cubit wide, and a cubit and a half high.

11 And he overlaid it with clean gold, and made a moulding of gold all around it.

12 And he made a rim of a handbreadth all around it, and made a moulding of gold for the rim all around it.

13 And he cast four rings of gold for it, and put the rings on the four corners that were at its four legs.

14 The rings were next to the rim, as holders for the poles to lift the table.

15 And he made the poles of acacia wood to lift the table, and overlaid them with gold.

16 And he made the utensils which were on the table, its dishes, and its cups, and its bowls, and its jars for pouring, of clean gold.

17 And he made the lampstand of clean gold. He made the lampstand of beaten work, its base, and its shaft, its cups, its ornamental knobs, and its blossoms were from it.

18 And six branches came out of its sides: three branches of the lampstand out of one side, and three branches of the lampstand out of the other side.

19 There were three cups like almond flowers on one branch, with ornamental knob and blossom, and three cups like almond flowers on the other branch, a knob and a blossom – so for the six branches coming out of the lampstand.

20 And on the lampstand were four cups like almond flowers, its knobs and blossoms,

21 and a knob under the first two branches of the same, and a knob under the second two branches of the same, and a knob under the third two branches of the same, for the six branches coming out of it.

22 Their knobs and their branches were of it, all of it was one beaten work of clean gold.

23 And he made its seven lamps, and its snuffers, and its trays, of clean gold.

24 He made it of a talent of clean gold, and all its utensils.

25 And he made the incense altar of acacia wood, a cubit long and a cubit wide, square, and two cubits high. Its horns were of it.

26 And he overlaid it with clean gold, its top and its sides all around, and its horns. And he made a moulding for it of gold all around it.

27 And he made two rings of gold for it under its moulding, at its two corners on both sides, as holders for the poles with which to lift it.

28 And he made the poles of acacia wood, and overlaid them with gold.

29 And he made the set-apart anointing oil and the clean incense of sweet spices, according to the work of the perfumer.

Isaiah 16-17

16 | 1 Send a lamb to the ruler of the land, from Sela to the wilderness, to the mountain of the daughter of Tsiyon.

2 And it shall be, like a wandering bird, a nest thrown out, so are the daughters of Mo’aḇ at the fords of Arnon.

3 “Bring counsel, execute judgment; make your shadow like the night in the middle of the day; hide the outcasts, do not betray him who escapes.

4 “Let My outcasts dwell with you, O Mo’aḇ; be a shelter to them from the face of the ravager. For the oppressor has met his end, destruction has ceased, those trampling down have perished from the land.

5 “And in kindness the throne shall be established. And One shall sit on it in truth, in the Tent of Dawiḏ, judging and seeking right-ruling, and speeding righteousness.”

6 We have heard of the pride of Mo’aḇ – very proud – of his pride, his arrogance and his rage. His boastings are not true.

7 So Mo’aḇ wails for Mo’aḇ, everyone wails. For the raisin-cakes of Qir Ḥareseth they moan. They are utterly smitten.

8 For the fields of Ḥeshbon languish – the vine of Siḇmah. The masters of the gentiles have broken down its choice plants, which have reached to Ya‛zĕr and wandered through the wilderness. Her branches are stretched out, they are gone over the sea.

9 Therefore I bewail the vine of Siḇmah, with the weeping of Ya‛zĕr. I water you with my tears, O Ḥeshbon and El‛alĕh, for acclamation have fallen over your summer fruit and your harvest.

10 Gladness is taken away, and joy from the orchard; in the vineyards there is no singing, nor shouting; No treaders tread out wine in their presses; I have made their acclamation cease.

11 Therefore my inward parts sound like a lyre for Mo’aḇ, and my inner being for Qir Ḥeres.

12 And it shall be, when it is seen that Mo’aḇ has wearied herself on the high place, that she shall come to her set-apart place to pray, but not be able.

13 This is the word which יהוה has spoken concerning Mo’aḇ since that time.

14 But now יהוה has spoken, saying, “Within three years, as the years of a hired man, the esteem of Mo’aḇ is to be despised with all its great throng, and the remnant be few, small and weak.”

17 | 1 The message concerning Damascus. “See, Damascus ceases to be a city, and shall become a heap of ruins.

2 “The cities of Aro‛ĕr are forsaken, they are for flocks which shall lie down, with no one to frighten.

3 “And the stronghold shall cease from Ephrayim, and the reign from Damascus, and the remnant of Aram be as the esteem of the sons of Yisra’ĕl,” declares יהוה of hosts.

4 “And in that day it shall be that the esteem of Ya‛aqoḇ wanes, and the fatness of his flesh grows lean.

5 “And it shall be as when the harvester gathers the grain, and reaps the heads with his arm. And it shall be as he who gathers heads of grain in the Valley of Repha’im.

6 “And gleaning grapes shall be left in it, like the shaking of an olive tree, two or three olives at the top of the uppermost branch, four or five in its most fruit-bearing branches,” declares יהוה Elohim of Yisra’ĕl.

7 In that day man shall look to his Maker, and his eyes turn to the Set-apart One of Yisra’ĕl.

8 And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands; and he shall not see that which his own fingers made, nor the Ashĕrim nor the sun-pillars.

9 In that day his strong cities become like a forsaken forest and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Yisra’ĕl. And it shall become a ruin.

10 Because you have forgotten the Elohim of your deliverance, and have not remembered the Rock of your stronghold, therefore you shall plant pleasant plants and set out foreign seedlings,

11 by day make your plant to grow, and in the morning make your seed to flourish – but the harvest is a heap in the day of grief and incurable pain.

12 Woe to the uproar of many people who make a noise like the roar of the seas, and to the rushing of nations that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters –

13 nations rushing like the rushing of many waters. But He shall rebuke them and they shall flee far away, and be chased like the chaff of the mountains before the wind, like whirling dust before the whirlwind.

14 At eventide, look! Alarm! Before morning, it is no more. This is the portion of those who plunder us, and the lot of those who rob us.

Judges 8

8 | 1 And the men of Ephrayim said to him, “What is this you have done to us by not calling us when you went to fight with Miḏyan?” And they contended with him sharply,

2 and he said to them, “What have I done as compared with you? Are the gleanings of Ephrayim not better than the grape harvest of Aḇi‛ezer?

3 “Elohim has given into your hands the princes of Miḏyan, Orĕḇ and Ze’ĕḇ. And what was I able to do as compared with you?” And when he had said that their rage toward him subsided.

4 And Giḏ‛on and the three hundred men who were with him came to the Yardĕn, passing over, weary yet pursuing.

5 And he said to the men of Sukkoth, “Please give loaves of bread to the people who follow me, for they are weary, and I am pursuing Zeḇaḥ and Tsalmunna, sovereigns of Miḏyan.”

6 But the leaders of Sukkoth said, “Are the hands of Zeḇaḥ and Tsalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your army?”

7 And Giḏ‛on said, “Because of this, when יהוה has given Zeḇaḥ and Tsalmunna into my hand, I shall tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers!”

8 And he went up from there to Penu’ĕl and spoke to them in the same way. And the men of Penu’ĕl answered him as the men of Sukkoth had answered him.

9 So he spoke also to the men of Penu’ĕl, saying, “When I come back in peace I shall break down this tower!”

10 And Zeḇaḥ and Tsalmunna were at Qarqor, and their armies with them, about fifteen thousand men, all who were left of all the army of the people of the East. Now those who had already fallen were one hundred and twenty thousand men who drew the sword.

11 And Giḏ‛on went up by the way of those who dwell in tents on the east of Noḇaḥ and Yog̅behah. And he smote the camp while the camp was at ease.

12 And Zeḇaḥ and Tsalmunna fled, and he pursued them, and captured the two sovereigns of Miḏyan, Zeḇaḥ and Tsalmunna, and shuddered the entire army.

13 And Giḏ‛on son of Yo’ash returned from battle, from the Ascent of Ḥeres,

14 and captured a youth of the men of Sukkoth and questioned him. So the youth wrote down for him the leaders of Sukkoth and its elders, seventy-seven men.

15 And he came to the men of Sukkoth and said, “See: Zeḇaḥ and Tsalmunna, about whom you taunted me, saying, ‘Are the hands of Zeḇaḥ and Tsalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your men who are weary?’ ”

16 And he took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Sukkoth a lesson.

17 And he broke down the tower of Penu’ĕl and slew the men of the city.

18 And he said to Zeḇaḥ and Tsalmunna, “How were the men whom you killed at Taḇor?” So they answered, “They were like you, each one looked like the son of a sovereign.”

19 And he said, “They were my brothers, the sons of my mother. As יהוה lives, if you had let them live, I would not slay you.”

20 And he said to Yether his first-born, “Rise, slay them!” But the youth would not draw his sword, for he was afraid, because he was still a youth.

21 Then Zeḇaḥ and Tsalmunna said, “Rise yourself, and fall on us. For as a man is, so is his might.” So Giḏ‛on arose and slew Zeḇaḥ and Tsalmunna, and took the crescent ornaments which were on their camels’ necks.

22 So the men of Yisra’ĕl said to Giḏ‛on, “Rule over us, both you and your son, also your son’s son, for you have saved us from the hand of Miḏyan.”

23 But Giḏ‛on said to them, “I do not rule over you, nor does my son rule over you. יהוה does rule over you.”

24 And Giḏ‛on said to them, “I have a request to make of you, that each of you give me the ring from his spoil.” For they had rings of gold, because they were Yishma‛ĕlites.

25 And they said, “We shall certainly give them.” And they spread out a garment, and each man threw into it the ring from his spoil.

26 And the weight of the gold rings that he requested was one thousand seven hundred pieces of gold – besides the crescent ornaments, and the pendants, and purple robes which were on the sovereigns of Miḏyan, and besides the chains that were around their camels’ necks.

27 And Giḏ‛on made it into a shoulder garment and set it up in his city, Ophrah. And all Yisra’ĕl went whoring after it there. And it became a snare to Giḏ‛on and to his house.

28 Thus Miḏyan was humbled before the children of Yisra’ĕl, and they lifted their heads no more. And the land had rest for forty years in the days of Giḏ‛on.

29 And Yerubba‛al son of Yo’ash went and dwelt in his own house.

30 And Giḏ‛on had seventy sons who were his own offspring, for he had many wives.

31 And his concubine who was in Sheḵem also bore him a son, and he gave him the name Aḇimeleḵ.

32 And Giḏ‛on son of Yo’ash died at a good old age, and was buried in the tomb of Yo’ash his father, in Ophrah of the Aḇi‛ezerites.

33 And it came to be, when Giḏ‛on was dead, that the children of Yisra’ĕl again went whoring after the Ba‛als, and made Ba‛al-Berith their mighty one.

34 Thus the children of Yisra’ĕl did not remember יהוה their Elohim, who had delivered them from the hands of all their enemies round about,

35 nor did they show kindness to the house of Yerubba‛al, Giḏ‛on, according to all the good which he did for Yisra’ĕl.

James 1-2

1 | 1 Ya‛aqoḇ, a servant of Elohim and of the Master יהושע Messiah, to the twelve tribes who are in the dispersion: Greetings.

2 My brothers, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,

3 knowing that the proving of your belief works endurance.

4 And let endurance have a perfect work, so that you be perfect and complete, lacking in naught.

5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of Elohim, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it shall be given to him.

6 But he should ask in belief, not doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.

7 For that man should not think that he shall receive whatever from the Master –

8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

9 And let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation,

10 but the rich in his humiliation, because as a flower of the field he shall pass away.

11 For the sun rose with burning heat, and withered the grass, and its flower fell, and its pretty appearance perished. So also the rich man shall fade away in his ways.

12 Blessed is the man who does endure trial, for when he has been proved, he shall receive the crown of life which the Master has promised to those who love Him.

13 Let no one say when he is enticed, “I am enticed by Elohim,” for Elohim is not enticed by evil matters, and He entices no one.

14 But each one is enticed when he is drawn away by his own desires and trapped.

15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin. And sin, when it has been accomplished, brings forth death.

16 Do not go astray, my beloved brothers.

17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no change, nor shadow of turning.

18 Having purposed it, He brought us forth by the Word of truth, for us to be a kind of first-fruits of His creatures.

19 So then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath,

20 for the wrath of man does not work the righteousness of Elohim.

21 Therefore put away all filthiness and overflow of evil, and receive with meekness the implanted Word, which is able to save your lives.

22 And become doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

23 Because if anyone is a hearer of the Word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror,

24 for he looks at himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what he was like.

25 But he that looked into the perfect Torah, that of freedom, and continues in it, not becoming a hearer that forgets, but a doer of work, this one shall be blessed in his doing of the Torah.

26 If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is worthless.

27 Clean and undefiled religion before the Elohim and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

2 | 1 My brothers, do not hold the belief of our Master יהושע Messiah, the Master of esteem, with partiality.

2 For if there should come into your meeting a man with gold rings, in a splendid robe, and there should also come in a poor one dressed in rags,

3 and you pay attention to the one wearing the splendid robe and say to him, “You sit here in a good place,” and say to the poor one, “You stand there,” or, “Sit here by my feet,”

4 have you not discriminated among yourselves, and become judges with wicked thoughts?

5 Listen, my beloved brothers: Has Elohim not chosen the poor of this world, rich in belief and heirs of the reign which He promised to those who love Him?

6 But you have shown disrespect towards the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you and drag you into the courts?

7 Do they not blaspheme that good Name by which you are called?

8 If you truly accomplish the sovereign law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbour as yourself,” you do well,

9 but if you show partiality, you commit sin, being found guilty by the Torah as transgressors.

10 For whoever shall guard all the Torah, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.

11 For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of Torah.

12 So speak and so do as those who are to be judged by a Torah of freedom.a

13 For the judgment is without compassion to the one who has shown no compassion. And compassion boasts over judgment.

14 My brothers, what use is it for anyone to say he has belief but does not have works? This belief is unable to save him.

15 And if a brother or sister is naked and in need of daily food,

16 but one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,” but you do not give them the bodily needs, what use is it?

17 So also belief, if it does not have works, is in itself dead.

18 But someone might say, “You have belief, and I have works.” Show me your belief without your works, and I shall show you my belief by my works.

19 You believe that Elohim is one. You do well. The demons also believe – and shudder!

20 But do you wish to know, O foolish man, that the belief without the works is dead?

21 Was not Aḇraham our father declared right by works when he offered Yitsḥaq his son on the altar?

22 Do you see that the belief was working with his works, and by the works the belief was perfected?

23 And the Scripture was filled which says, “Aḇraham believed Elohim, and it was reckoned to him for righteousness.” And he was called, “Elohim’s friend.”

24 You see, then, that a man is declared right by works, and not by belief alone.

25 In the same way, was not Raḥaḇ the whore also declared right by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?

26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so also the belief is dead without the works.

Job 5

5 | 1 “Call out, please, is there anyone to answer you? And to which of the set-apart ones would you turn?

2 For wrath kills the fool, and envy slays the simple.

3 I myself have seen the fool taking root, but suddenly his home was cursed.

4 His sons are far from safety, they are crushed in the gate, with no one to deliver.

5 The hungry eat up his harvest, taking it even from the thorns, and the snare snaps up their wealth.

6 For evil does not come from the dust, nor does trouble spring from the ground;

7 for man is born for trouble, and the sparks fly upward.

8 But as for me, I would seek Ěl, and I would submit my case to Elohim,

9 who is doing great and unsearchable deeds, innumerable wonders,

10 who is giving rain on the earth’s face, and is sending waters on the field’s face;

11 to set the lowly on high, and those who mourn shall be lifted to safety,

12 thwarting the schemes of the crafty, so that their hands do not work effectively;

13 catching the wise in their own craftiness, and the counsel of schemers are swept away.

14 By day they encounter darkness, and at noon they grope as in the night.

15 But He saves the needy from the sword of their mouth, from the clutches of the strong.

16 Thus the poor have expectancy, and unrighteousness shuts her mouth.

17 Look, blessed is the man whom Eloah does reprove, so do not despise the discipline of the Almightya.

18 For He bruises, but He binds up; He smites, but His hands heala.

19 In six distresses He delivers you, and in seven no evil strikes you.

20 In scarcity of food He shall redeem you from death, and in battle from the power of the sword.

21 When the tongue scourges you are shielded, and you have no fear when destruction comes.

22 At destruction and at starvation you laugh, and you have no fear of the beasts of the earth.

23 For your covenant is with the stones of the field, and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with you.

24 And you shall know that your tent is in peace, and shall visit your tent and not sin,

25 and shall know that your seed are many, and your offspring like the grass of the earth.

26 You shall come to the grave in ripe old age, like the stacking of grain in its season.

27 Look, this we have searched out, it is so. Hear it, and know for yourself.”

Jubilees 29-30
(CEPHER TRANSLATION)

29 | 1AND it came to pass when Rachel had borne Yoceph, that Lavan went to shear his sheep; for they were distant from him a three days’ journey.

2 And Ya`aqov saw that Lavan was going to shear his sheep, and Ya`aqov called Le’ah and Rachel, and spoke kindly unto them that they should come with him to the land of Kena`an.

3 For he told them how he had seen everything in a dream, even all that he had spoken unto him that he should return to his father’s house, and they said: ‘To every place whither you go we will go with you.’

4 And Ya`aqov blessed the ELOHIYM of Yitschaq his father, and the ELOHIYM of Avraham his father’s father, and he arose and mounted his women and his children, and took all his possessions and crossed the river, and came to the land of Gil`ad, and Ya`aqov hid his intention from Lavan and told him not.

5 And in the seventh year of the fourth week Ya`aqov turned his face toward Gil`ad in the first month, on the twenty first thereof. And Lavan pursued after him and overtook Ya`aqov in the mountain of Gil`ad in the third month, on the thirteenth thereof.

6 And YAHUAH did not suffer him to injure Ya`aqov; for he appeared to him in a dream by night. And Lavan spoke to Ya`aqov.

7 And on the fifteenth of those days Ya`aqov made a feast for Lavan, and for all who came with him, and Ya`aqov swore to Lavan that day, and Lavan also to Ya`aqov, that neither should cross the mountain of Gil`ad to the other with evil purpose.

8 And he made there a heap for a witness; wherefore the name of that place is called: ‘The Heap of Witness,’ after this heap.

9 But before they used to call the land of Gil’ad the land of the Repha’iym; for it was the land of the Repha’iym, and the Repha’iym were born there, Repha’iym whose height was ten, nine, eight down to seven cubits.

10 And their habitation was from the land of the children of Ammon to Mount Chermon, and the seats of their kingdom were Qiryathayim and Ashtaroth, and Edre’iy, and Misur, and Be’on.

11 And YAHUAH destroyed them because of the evil of their deeds; for they were very malignant, and the Emoriym dwelt in their stead, wicked and sinful, and there is no people today which has wrought to the full all their sins, and they have no longer length of life on the earth.

12 And Ya`aqov sent away Lavan, and he departed into Aram Naharayim, the land of the East, and Ya`aqov returned to the land of Gil`ad.

13 And he passed over the Yabboq in the ninth month, on the eleventh thereof. And on that day Esau, his brother, came to him, and he was reconciled to him, and departed from him unto the land of Se`iyr, but Ya`aqov dwelt in tents.

14 And in the first year of the fifth week in this jubilee he crossed the Yardan, and dwelt beyond the Yardan, and he pastured his sheep from the sea of the heap unto Beyt Sha’an, and unto Dothan and unto the forest of Ma`aleh Aqrabbiym.

15 And he sent to his father Yitschaq of all his substance, clothing, and food, and meat, and drink, and milk, and butter, and cheese, and some dates of the valley.

16 And to his mother Rivqah also four times a year, between the times of the months, between plowing and reaping, and between autumn and the rain season and between winter and spring, to the tower of Avraham.

17 For Yitschaq had returned from the Well of the Oath and gone up to the tower of his father Avraham, and he dwelt there apart from his son Esau.

18 For in the days when Ya`aqov went to Aram Naharayim, Esau took to himself a woman Machalath, the daughter of Yishma’el, and he gathered together all the flocks of his father and his women, and went up and dwelt on Mount Se`iyr, and left Yitschaq his father at the Well of the Oath alone.

19 And Yitschaq went up from the Well of the Oath and dwelt in the tower of Avraham his father on the mountains of Chevron.

20 And thither Ya`aqov sent all that he did send to his father and his mother from time to time, all they needed, and they blessed Ya`aqov with all their heart and with all their soul.

30 1 AND in the first year of the sixth week he went up to Shalem, to the east of Shekem, in peace, in the fourth month.

2 And there they carried off Diynah, the daughter of Ya`aqov, into the house of Shekem, the son of Chamor, the Chivviy, the prince of the land, and he lay with her and defiled her, and she was a little girl, a child of twelve years.

3 And he besought his father and her brothers that she might be given to him to be his woman. And Ya`aqov and his sons were wroth because of the men of Shekem; for they had defiled Diynah, their sister, and they spoke to them with evil intent and dealt deceitfully with them and beguiled them.

4 And Shim`on and Leviy came unexpectedly to Shekem and executed judgment on all the men of Shekem, and slew all the men whom they found in it, and left not a single one remaining in it: they slew all in torments because they had dishonoured their sister Diynah.

5 And thus let it not again be done from henceforth that a daughter of Yashar’el be defiled; for judgment is ordained in heaven against them that they should destroy with the sword all the men of the Shikmiym because they had wrought shame in Yashar’el.

6 And YAHUAH delivered them into the hands of the sons of Ya`aqov that they might exterminate them with the sword and execute judgment upon them, and that it might not thus again be done in Yashar’el that a virgin of Yashar’el should be defiled.

7 And if there is any man who wishes in Yashar’el to give his daughter or his sister to any man who is of the seed of the other nations he shall surely die, and they shall stone him with stones; for he has wrought shame in Yashar’el; and they shall burn the woman with fire, because she has dishonoured the name of the house of her father, and she shall be rooted out of Yashar’el.

8 And let not a woman that breaks wedlock and no uncleanness be found in Yashar’el throughout all the days of the generations of the earth; for Yashar’el is holy unto YAHUAH, and every man who has defiled it shall surely die:

9 They shall stone him with stones. For thus has it been ordained and written in the heavenly tablets regarding all the seed of Yashar’el: He who defiles it shall surely die, and he shall be stoned with stones.

10 And to this Torah there is no limit of days, and no remission, nor any atonement: but the man who has defiled his daughter shall be rooted out in the midst of all Yashar’el, because he has given of his seed to Molek, and wrought impiously so as to defile it.

11 And do you, Mosheh, command the children of Yashar’el and exhort them not to give their daughters to the other nations, and not to take for their sons any of the daughters of the other nations, for this is abominable before YAHUAH.

12 For this reason I have written for you in the words of the Torah all the deeds of the Shikmiym, which they wrought against Diynah, and how the sons of Ya`aqov spoke, saying: We will not give our daughter to a man who is uncircumcised; for that were a reproach unto us.

13 And it is a reproach to Yashar’el, to those who live, and to those that take the daughters of the other nations; for this is unclean and abominable to Yashar’el.

14 And Yashar’el will not be free from this uncleanness if it has a woman of the daughters of the other nations, or has given any of its daughters to a man who is of any of the other nations.

15 For there will be plague upon plague, and curse upon curse, and every judgment and plague and curse will come: if he do this thing, or hide his eyes from those who commit uncleanness, or those who defile the sanctuary of YAHUAH, or those who profane his holy name, then will the whole nation together be judged for all the uncleanness and profanation of this man.

16 And there will be no respect of persons and no consideration of persons and no receiving at his hands of fruits and offerings and burnt offerings and fat, nor the fragrance of sweet savour, so as to accept it: and so fare every man or woman in Yashar’el who defiles the sanctuary.

17 For this reason I have commanded you, saying: Testify this testimony to Yashar’el: see how the Shikmiym fared and their sons: how they were delivered into the hands of two sons of Ya`aqov, and they slew them under tortures, and it was reckoned unto them for righteousness, and it is written down to them for righteousness.

18 And the seed of Leviy was chosen for the priesthood, and to be Leviyiym, that they might minister before YAHUAH, as we continually, and that Leviy and his sons may be blessed forever; for he was zealous to execute righteousness and judgment and vengeance on all those who arose against Yashar’el.

19 And so they inscribe as a testimony in his favour on the heavenly tablets blessing and righteousness before the ELOHIYM of all:

20 And we remember the righteousness which the man fulfilled during his life, at all periods of the year; until a thousand generations they will record it, and it will come to him and to his descendants after him, and he has been recorded on the heavenly tablets as a friend and a righteous man.

21 All this account I have written for you, and have commanded you to say to the children of Yashar’el, that they should not commit sin nor transgress the ordinances nor break the covenant which has been ordained for them, but that they should fulfil it and be recorded as friends.

22 But if they transgress and work uncleanness in every way, they will be recorded on the heavenly tablets as adversaries, and they will be destroyed out of the cepher of life, and they will be recorded in the cepher of those who will be destroyed and with those who will be rooted out of the earth.

23 And on the day when the sons of Ya`aqov slew Shekem a writing was recorded in their favour in heaven that they had executed righteousness and uprightness and vengeance on the sinners, and it was written for a blessing.

24 And they brought Diynah, their sister, out of the house of Shekem, and they took captive everything that was in Shekem, their sheep and their oxen and their asses, and all their wealth, and all their flocks, and brought them all to Ya`aqov their father.

25 And he reproached them because they had put the city to the sword for he feared those who dwelt in the land, the Kena`aniym and the Perizziym.

26 And the dread of YAHUAH was upon all the cities which are around about Shekem, and they did not rise to pursue after the sons of Ya`aqov; for terror had fallen upon them.
